Thanks to everyone who’s taken the time and spent money on postage, we’ve collected 100 old glucometers for recycling so far.  We have to collect many more to make a big difference, but this is a milestone to be proud of!

None of the pharmaceutical companies who make these devices have stepped up to the plate to do something about this stream of e-waste but together we’ve begun to make a difference.

I’ve been very pleased with the results so far, particularly since the majority of the meters collected have come from individuals who just want to do the right thing.  Surprisingly nearly all of the meters collected have come from the USA (which is somewhat disheartening to me as a Canadian) but I suppose you have to start somewhere.

I want to do more to divert these devices from the landfills and would appreciate the efforts of anyone who’d also like to help out.  If you know of a doctor’s office, pharmacy, or diabetes education clinic  please let them know about this service and that they can become a collector to help divert blood glucose monitors from the trash.

If we can get enough interest,  maybe we can all make a difference and keep 25,000,000 old glucometers out of the landfills in North America.
